And Now a Few Laughs from Our Sponsor
Larry Oakner offers an exhaustive history of funny radio spots, but our work is on TWO MEASLY PAGES. (The Robert Goulet spot for The Simpsons.) Come on, Larry, didn't we deserve three pages?
Broadcast/ Cable Copywriting, 7th Edition
Dr. Orlik included my work in a previous edition of this fine college text, but I'll have to buy this new edition to see if that's still true. And it'll only cost me $76!!!!! Textbooks: license to print money.
How to Be Like Walt
Stop it.
Flattered.
But stop.
Fueling up for the wedding are Adam (son, groom, center) and Danny, Patrick and Charlie Jaschek (nephews, groomsmen.) And that's the last shot here from the iPhone wedding set. We'll leave the rest up to the professionals.
Meanwhile, shouldn't we sell the above image and headline to guspretzels.com?
...my son Adam Q. Jaschek IS done buying a HOUSE. In fact, he and his fiance' Natalie move into their newly acquired Crestwood manor this weekend! Congrats, Adam and Natalie. You have achieved at ages 23/24 what I just achieved at age, um, not 23/24. I wish you many happy days there. Without too many plumbing problems.
Scott Kay and the Continentals have a Myspace page (A band on Myspace? Whooda thunk?) On the page, you can listen to free samples of the band's high-octane mash-up of rockabilly and Americana. They play around the STL area, and have a CD, recommended, with such inspired originals as "Sanctimonious Hippie." Great title.
What's my connection to the band? You are right to ask, since Walt Now is all about me. I am related to the drummer, Joe Kurtz, third from left -- listen to this kid on the song Highway Run! ("Kid:" he's 21.) Joe is the son of my first cousin, Richard Kurtz of Waterloo, Illinois. So is drummer Joe my cousin, my second-cousin, or no relation at all? I don't know these things. Somebody help.
Also, a tip of the Walt Now coffee mug to Tom Myler, officially a first cousin, creator of the new blog ScooDog, crack-a-lackin' fresh with wry observations and unpaid reviews. (We distinguish between paid and unpaid these days, thanks to guys like me who blur the line.) One of my favorite recent Tom finds is Amazon's published $99,999 pricepoint for a Zune. Tom was offered a generous $30 discount, though.
Q for self: Should I categorize this post in Funny Fam or Talented Friends? Let's flip a coin. And the winner is...
...of the Cardinals Hall of Fame in St. Louis, celebrating the Cards' World Series victory in Game 5. Adam says his strategic location made him the subject of many a snap from street level, and he found this one amid a Flickr set.

But is this really Adam? Let's blow up the photo and see.

Well, whaddaya know -- it IS! The likeness is unmistakable.
P.S. When not celebrating on rooftops, Adam, 23, is a resident of Dogtown and works by day as Events Specialist at the St. Louis Butterfly House.
